HRM Budget Direction 2026–27 – Snapshot
HRM’s draft Budget Direction projects an average 10.5% increase to the municipal tax bill for 2026–27. Rising compensation costs, reserve replenishment, inflationary pressures, and previously approved commitments are driving an overall $88.9M increase in required funding. Assessment growth accounts for roughly 4% of the increase, with the remaining 6.5% coming from the tax rate. Optional service enhancements and reductions are also under review and could shift the final tax impact.
