Two major north-end Halifax developments moving ahead

Strawberry Hill and Downtown Gateway reaching milestones

HALIFAX, N.S. — Imagine pedestrian plazas. Towers over 40-storeys tall with thousands of housing units.

Two massive, city-building development projects in north-end Halifax are in different stages but are making progress — the Downtown Gateway (near Citadel Hill) and Strawberry Hill (by the car dealerships on Kempt Road).

Downtown Gateway

HRM owns almost six hectares of under-used land that has a lot of potential. The area is bordered by Cogswell Street, Rainnie Drive, and Gottingen Street and encompasses the Halifax Regional Police HQ, the Centennial Pool (which is being studied by HRM for options), and the new Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre (MNFC) which is about to start construction. HRM calls it the Downtown Gateway.

Strawberry Hill Future Growth Node

A trio of property owners are looking to build 14 mixed-use buildings between eight and 42 storeys with 3,656 residential units and multiple commercial storefronts in the Strawberry Hill Future Growth Node.
